Yellow for iPhone

Don’t buy a second phone to fix the first one.

You don’t want a worse phone. You want to stop opening Instagram, TikTok, X, even email, without deciding to. Yellow puts a quick math problem in front of the apps you open on autopilot. Uber, Maps and everything else work like always.

7 days free, then $29.99/year or $5.99/month. Cancel anytime.

iPhone only, iOS 17 or later.

Left: the shield Yellow puts over an app you picked. Right: the math question you solve to open it.

How it works

A second to decide, every time.

  1. Pick your apps

Yellow starts from your own Screen Time and shows the apps that take the most of your day. You choose which ones get a question.

  2. Open one, get a question

Instead of the app, you see Yellow’s shield. Tap through and solve a short math problem, like 47 + 38.

  3. It opens for a few minutes

Get it right and the app opens for the window you set: 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

  4. Then it locks again

When the window ends, the app re-locks on its own, even if Yellow is closed. You never have to remember to turn it back on.

What’s different

A question you can always answer. Not a lockout.

No lockouts, no rationed exits

Hardware blockers give you a handful of emergency unlocks. Yellow’s way through is a question you can always pass. The pause is the point.

Friction where your time goes

Setup reads your own Screen Time ranking. Your biggest pulls get the full challenge; lighter pulls get one quick question.

The Yellow Score

A daily 0 to 100 score for how well you kept your word to yourself. The best days are the ones you never open a guarded app at all.

Re-locks itself

Unlocks are temporary passes, never permanent. Apple’s Screen Time enforces the re-lock, so it happens even with Yellow closed.

Nothing to buy or carry

No puck, no card, nothing to lose in the couch. Your iPhone stays your iPhone, and a year of Yellow costs about half what a Brick does.

Websites too, in Safari

Type a site like x.com and it gets the same question in Safari, with the Yellow extension turned on.

Who it’s for

You looked at dumbphones. Then you thought about Uber and Google Maps. You don’t have to pick.

Yellow puts a math problem in front of the apps you open on autopilot and leaves the rest alone. Uber, Maps and the bank app stay. Instagram asks you a question first.

You opened Instagram at the playground. You don’t remember deciding to. You don’t need a dumbphone to stop that. You need a second to decide.

  • Work hours. Friction only while you’re working, so lunch and evenings stay normal.
  • Evenings. Bedtime’s at 8. So is Instagram. Turn the questions on for the hours you want back.
  • Always on, or your own hours. Custom schedules work overnight too.

Yellow is for your own phone. It isn’t a parental control app and can’t manage anyone else’s device.

Honest limits

What Yellow isn’t.

  • iPhone only. iOS 17 or later. There’s no Android, iPad or Mac version.
  • Websites in Safari only. Website blocking works in Safari, with the Yellow extension turned on. Other browsers aren’t covered.
  • A self-control tool, not a cage. You can always solve the question, and you can turn off Yellow’s Screen Time access in iOS Settings. It works because it makes you decide, not because it can’t be undone.

Support

Questions and answers.

How does the free trial work?

Yellow is 7 days free, then $29.99/year or $5.99/month. You pick a plan when you tap Activate protection at the end of setup, and nothing is charged for 7 days. On day 8 the plan you picked is billed to your Apple ID unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

How do I cancel?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Yellow. If your subscription ends, Yellow lifts its shields and keeps your rules, so you can turn it back on later without setting it up again.

Why does Yellow need Screen Time access?

Putting a shield over an app on iPhone is only possible through Apple’s Screen Time. Yellow asks for individual access on your own device. Apple gives Yellow your picks as private tokens, so Yellow can’t see which apps you chose.

I tapped Open Yellow on a shield and nothing appeared.

iOS doesn’t let a shield open another app, so Yellow sends a notification instead. Check Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ Yellow: Allow Notifications, Banners and Time Sensitive should be on, and any Focus mode must allow Time Sensitive notifications. Opening Yellow from the Home Screen right after the shield also goes straight to the question.

An app I picked still opens.

Open Yellow once. It re-checks protection every time it comes to the front.

Websites I typed aren’t blocked.

Typed websites are blocked in Safari, with the Yellow extension. Turn it on in Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Safari ▸ Extensions ▸ Yellow, and set All Websites to Allow. Other browsers aren’t covered.

Safari shows Apple’s grey Restricted page instead of Yellow’s.

That site is also ticked in Apple’s app picker. Untick it there and keep it as a typed website in Yellow.

Why can I always open Calculator?

So you can always work out a question. You can add other must-have apps to the Always allowed list in Settings.

How is the Yellow Score worked out?

It’s a 0 to 100 number for each day you have protection scheduled. Your clean streak counts for 35 points, opens you walked away from 25, unlock time against your daily budget 20, protection uptime 10 and a steady pace (no rapid retries) 10.

What can’t Yellow do?

It doesn’t run on Android, iPad or Mac, and it only blocks websites in Safari. It can’t manage someone else’s phone. And it isn’t unbreakable: you can always answer the question or switch off its Screen Time access.

How do I delete my data?

Your rules and activity live on your phone and go away when you delete the app. If you gave us an email during setup, write to info@bridgetheappco.com and we’ll remove it.

Email support: info@bridgetheappco.com. Include your iPhone model and iOS version. We usually reply within two business days.

You don’t need a dumbphone to stop opening Instagram. You need a second to decide.
